32. How I became the most social media savvy man in France.
France’s take on social media is quite different than that of the United States, especially when it comes to finding a job. However I’ve been following Joshua Waldman casually for years to keep up with upcoming trends and ideas in the event I decide to move back to the States. And it was the relevance of his 7 minute video explaining how to use Gist.com to manage and track your contact list that seemed the most useful to expatriates…
So I sent him an email congratulating him on his book and letting him know I was looking forward to picking it up at WHSmith when it finally reaches Paris.
“Actually, I’m going to be in Paris on 9/20. I can bring you a copy.”
Now who would turn down a free book and a chance to meet a published writer? I didn’t when I served Dan Mathews: the Senior VP of PETA a double cognac no ice, and I wasn’t about to start now!
So I canceled my afternoon meeting and met Joshua during lunch for drinks before his return flight to the States.
Joshua Waldman’s past blog posts are currently password protected and only available to those privileged few with access to his book (the password can be found on page 144, line 5 of paragraph 3, 2nd word).
And for those of you who have already purchased his book and have the password, here are five articles that have my recommendation:
- 9 steps to getting hired in the digital age.
- When your CV isn’t enough (alternatives #3 and #4)
- Online CV - What not to include.
- The death of the verb.
- When you don’t know what to say about yourself.
Thank you very much Joshua for the autographed copy of your new book and time from your busy schedule. I imagine right about now you’re winding through Charles de Gaulle International customs. It was a pleasure to meet you, and the next time you’re in Paris, I’ll show you how we social network here!
